Membership Subscription Pro
If you haven't heard about this great plugin, then let me tell you how great it is... After trying several free options, and even purchasing a couple more expensive plugins I was still stuck with the same problem. How do I upgrade a current members user role upon subscribing?
All other plugins I tried created only one user role level and some allowed you to control content within your post / theme (or so they claimed)... After nearly giving up my search an feeling doomed for an easy way to allow posting for free and charge to reply. Success!!!
So I stumbled upon Membership Subscription Pro

WP settings to create new members at a user role level "member" then when someone subscribes the plugin looks for the email address in
WP database; if it finds it it simply upgrades the account to user role level "contributor". If it doesn't find the email address it creates a new account at "contributor" user level after payment.
This feature is important to me since I use the code found here

Prior to this plugin I could not achieve upgrading members whom paid other than manually. Now I don't have to babysit my website. Thanks Membership Subscription Pro... and I think I'm ready to begin promoting my site (
