Upgrading from legacy CP 3.0.5.3 to CP 3.2
I think this is the most challenging part for everyone, yet I had the chance to test the outcome of an upgrade on a test site by migrating a Full backup of my existing legacy CP site using the BackupBuddy plugin (strongly recommended), this worked great except for a couple of things.
The migration to the new CP version caused a couple of layout changes including the main menu being displayed Vertically (One item on top of each other causing the header to stretch massively: see attached files) and the CSS layout for drop down menus is just... weird.
I do realize I had hard coded a lot of changes including the CSS file, but what I would like to know is:
1. What would be the logical steps needed to complete a successful migration from a legacy version of CP (3.0.5.3) to CP 3.2? Do we go by upgrading by newer versions until we get to CP 3.2 or can we go ahead and do it straight to CP 3.2? Are there specific versions that we need to upgrade to first prior to CP 3.2? I took a look at this
thread and I;'m not sure if its applicable in this case.
When we activate CP 3.2, shouldnt it override ALL the old files no matter what changes we made? I'm concerned as to some files might have been left untouched given the attachment I included showing a weird display when it comes to Chosing the category to place an ad (yes I had hard coded those files as well).
Any feedback or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
