Upgrading from PE to SBE

Hello guys.

Maybe I'm too dumb, I don't know, but I'm stuck.

I've just upgraded my license from PE to SBE and the first thin I did after downloading the file was to read the documentation.

But the docs shows only information on how to install from scratch or upgrade from a previous version: no instruction on how to upgrade from PE.
... or did I miss it?

Anyhow, I checked in the forums and I've found only a couple of posts saying either to install the update as a second theme (now way: I don't want to mess with themes and widgets) or overwrite the files.

Actually the second option is the first thing I would have done, but just in case I wanted to be 100% sure.

I tried then to overwrite all files and... nothing in changed.

I also cleared CP cache and still, no changes at all.

So, what is the proper way to upgrade?
And why there is a missing documentation about that.

Last question: why should be so hard to upgrade the license? Wouldn't be easier to just enable disable features, using a license number that is checked against your servers via webservice?

I'm a new customer and I didn't have to go through new releases upgrades, but looking at the issues I'm having to just upgrade my license, I'm scared about the idea of upgrading to future releases
