Is a web disk required disk required?

While setting up my wordpress account with Host Gator, they suggested that I set up a Web Disk -
If I need to move a lot of files at a time, or find myself often making changes the the site. Host Gator states that the Web Disk offers easy access to my site, which would allow me to add a link to my home computer's desktop, which goes to my website's files. This would supposedly allow me to view the files on my site as I would normally view files on my computer.

Do you feel that this is necessary, or will it create problems??
