Parent coupon types

Hello,


I would like to know how "parent" coupon type can be used ?
First, I thought that it was to be able to set different names under the 3 main coupon types (coupon code, promo, printable) but when I add new coupon type with, for example, coupon code as a parent (I thought this would give the "child" coupon type the characteristics of the parent) it does not work : for example, the new coupon type with a coupon code parent does not display the code field.

Can you please explain ?
