Category Listing on a Search Page looks different than Home Page

The category listing on a page after a search is different than what is displayed on the home page.
On home page, list only sub categories, no parent category. Same on Category page.

On the page displays after a search is done, shows parent category with subcategories underneath with check boxes that can be utilized to refine the search. How can I get that type of display on all pages?
Tried changing the widgets, did nothing.

Please help.
