Fields for Members or Logged In Users Only

Is there a way to make certain fields like phone number appear only to logged in users or members only. I saw a plugin for ClassiPress on this thread.

I am putting up a membership directory for an association and the association members prefer that their direct contact info - like phones and other fields - be accessible only by other members. Non-members can see their names and business names but not phone numbers.

Please advise if this can be done on the current state of Vantage or if plugin development is called for?
