Importing Listing images

I've searched quite a bit but cannot find conclusive documentation on importing Listing images/logos.

I know that all images must be pasted in the attachment field (or featured_attachment field) as a full url. But is the image required to reside on my server prior to import?
Like: MyVantageSite.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/listing-image1.jpg

If this is the case, it is a cumbersome extra step to upload ALL images to the media library and then past each link in the importer CSV. It would be so much easier to import from the Listing's url or other hosted url like: http://example-listing-site.com/media/listing-logo.jpg

If we are required to do this extra step, is there perhaps a plugin that can mass import images from an external link?
