Search Events by Date?

I am trying to set up the events part of Vantage. But either there is a major missing component, or I don't understand how to configure the search function. When a visitor searches for events, the search bar at the top only shows an option for a category and a location. For events, there should be a simple date search option also. Am I missing something because I looked all over the place and I can't find it?

I would really appreciate some help with this. If this is not included, is there a plugin available that greatly extends the search functionality that will provide this? Without the date search option, I will be forced to purchase another theme specifically to handle just the events portion. I was hoping to use Vantage as a way to integrate the features of the directory and events listings in one place for the customer.
