TroubleShooting CSV upload

I'm trying for the first time since originally setting up my site to bulk upload new listings. I've used the Sample CSV file and placed the information I have in the columns some are empty but i've left the titles in. I've saved it (though is says some things might not save in the same format) and don't see anything changed. When I try to up load the 33 listings it says '0 files uploaded' or I did manage to get it to say 1 file up loaded but that turned out to just be the category and no other info was uploaded. Am i missing something really obvious?
