    User roles

Somehow new users on my site are automatically registered as a "contributor" and then they can't edit their own listing. I read they need to a "subscriber" to be able to edit their own listing, is that right?

If so, how do I make subscriber the default setting for future registrations? (I already bulk-edited my current users to the subscriber role - but need to know how to get it to turn on automatically for future users).

Also- what are the differences between all the user roles? Thanks!
