Customization and upgrading

Hi,

I've acquired Jobroller 1.5 and customized some of the templates. I followed your advice and created a child theme in order to customize the files.
For exemple I've edited single-resume.php and added it to my child theme. My concern is that customization will be lost when I upgrade jobroller.
I've also added a feature that blocks unregistered / logged off users from seeing "How to Apply" and several more on several files.

What is the best way to keep developing customization, even on theme files, and not risk loosing it when I upgrade, even if the file has been changed in the upgrade?
