Fake Registrations

I am being hit daily this week with fake registrations by the hundreds on 2 of my job sites. The registration has captcha so I am not sure if these are human entries or a bot able to get past captcha.

I installed a plugin WP-Activity 2.0 Log which logs activity and IP address. I can blacklist the ip with the plugin when it is displayed. They appear to be coming from a proxy server. With the plugin I can also have users with failed logins banned.

After checking the logs and updating the blacklist I have to locate and delete each spam user manually. This takes away valuable time from my work. All the email addresses used are returned to me as invalid emails.

1. I wanted to know if any one else has or has had this problem and your solution.
2. Is there a way that new users registering must be approved by admin?
