Summaries on front page

Hi,
The biggest complaint we get from users is that the front page listings do not give a summary of the job but only the title. Is there a way that we can get summaries to display under the title? Also, I did see a child theme that does do this but if that is my only recourse how would it impact all of our customization and posted jobs on the standard jobroller theme, i.e., extensive text changes via .mo , etc.
