Need help understanding overall structure

First of all, like I said in the review, I'm using the Koupon theme and couldn't be happier with it. However, it's so different from other Wordpress themes I've worked with in the past that I'm having trouble understanding it.

I want to mimic the RetailMeNot site, and I know this theme was built to mimic it which is the reason I made the purchase. But does the Koupon theme post/organize the coupons in the same way RetailMeNot does?

For example, RetailMeNot has their homepage filled with "featured" coupons that act as the main coupons of the site from big sites like Amazon etc. Then all of the individual categories seem to have coupons being posted to them directly without showing on the homepage as a recent post. So am I able to organize my site in the same way? Or will all of the new posts, regardless of what type and category, show up on the homepage as per the usual blog-style functioning of Wordpress sites?

I hope I'm wording this in a way that makes sense. I'm basically looking to post coupons to the homepage and to individual categories separately. If I have 10 "boxing week" coupons from large departments stores on my homepage as "featured" coupons, I don't want those to be replaced (on the homepage) as I start adding coupons to individual categories like blogs typically operate.

I'm thinking I might be able to do this by making 10 coupons and clicking the "featured" checkbox when I create them, followed by setting the amount of coupons to show on the homepage to "10", limiting the homepage to ONLY the 10 featured posts. But I wanted to ask the brain behind this monster of a theme because I'm a little overwhelmed by all the functionality involved.
