Need Help Understanding and Using the Categories with Vantage

Hi all,

I'm struggling the understand the very basics of how to use the categories in Vantage.

I've recently purchased the Vantage theme and have spent a few weeks playing around with it and looking at other people's websites, but I can't figure out the basic principles of how it works and how to use it.

Can someone please explain to me in laymen's terms:

• What's possible with the categories
• What the limitations are (I really don't mind what they are, I just want to know so I can plan around it).
• How to action it

I'm developing a directory for practitioners who use 'writing for wellbeing'. So I'd ideally like two different search categories, they are:

1) type of writing
-Poetry
-Creative writing
-Writing for personal development

2) type of service offered
-Classes
-Workshops
-Training programmes

At the moment, I have the two categories, but the title of them shows as an option two. e.g. you can select 'type' rather than just selecting the types below it. I'm also not sure if say someone selects 'poetry' and 'classes' - they'll get just poetry classes, or everything in poetry and everything in classes. I also don't know what they'll get if they type into the search bar, or how the tags work.

I've tried looking for an idiots guide to this stuff but can't find it

I have a little website experience-with Joomla and with Umbraco, but I'm reasonably novice overall.
