Actually, you are mistaken. That feature in FXTender does NOT do what you want it to do. That means nobody can register unless they are in your database already, which isn't recommended.

I think everytime you upgrade, you lose all your customisations, including the translations in the PO and MO files. So you would have to do that whole process again I'm afraid! I know its very time...

Thats ok! Your welcome. I am in the same boat as you, and believe me, I have experienced sooo many issues in the past with upgrading wordpress or even just themes, and realising everything went wrong...

I highly recommend you wait for version 1.6.5 (coming out shortly), and then update JR FIRST, and then WP 3.5 Second.
But before all that, backup all your files via FTP and your Database.
