1.1 do people have to 'register' to post an ad?
Yes, people need to register to post an ad.
1.2 can they do it like gumtree, where they dont register, but it sends them a link to 'manage' the ad?
No, users must register to post an ad.
2.1 are there payment options such as, or similar to, free to post ads, maximum 4/mth - but pay a fee and you can post more than 4/mth?
Yes, ClassiPress has two features called Ad Packs and Membership packs. You can see how those work here:
http://demos.appthemes.com/classipre...?page=packages
2.2 how to stop duplicate accounts if so to avoid paying?
WordPress will prevent people from creating different accounts with the same username or the same email address. It does not prevent a user from creating two accounts with different email addresses or different account names.
2.3 how do subscriptions work? do they pay through the actual site, the money sends to your paypal - then it auto updates their account as 'paid' for the month/duration?
Payments are made when the user orders the subscription. Subscriptions are not automatically deducted each month. As a subscription gets closer to expiration, an email is automatically sent to the user letting them know that they will need to renew. If the user does not renew a subscription, the subscription ends.
3.1 can you remove the copyright footer and powered by wordpress
Yes, but you would need to modify files in order to do that. We always recommend creating a child theme instead of modifying the core files.
4.1 is it possible to change the layout of the front page with ease? maybe changing shortcodes on your wordpress page?
This would also require code modification. You can change certain things like adding or removing widgets in the sidebar. You can also choose to have categories appear at the top of the page under the featured ads slider.
5.1 possible for users to register and comment on listings?
Yes. Users can comment on listings.
5.2 possible for user profiles? eg. then you can check out their profiles like you can on a forum - this may include profile picture, brief info, etc
Yes, all registered users will have a profile that can be reviewed. All users get a dashboard that they can use to review their ads and edit their profile. You can see that on our ClassiPress demo here:
http://demos.appthemes.com/classipress/dashboard
6.1 any way to moderate stupid listings? or do you have to manually search - or can you check latest posts through the back end and then its easier to go through the new ads to see if there is any spam?
You can moderate listings or not. Unfortunately, we did not build in a "stupid" filter. The first developer that can create an accurate "stupid" filter will surely make a ton of money! All new ads are easily viewable in the WordPress admin. You can see which ones are moderated. You can see it here:
http://demos.appthemes.com/classipre...ype=ad_listing
7.1 can you monetize this in any other way besides member subscription (and banner ads)
You can sell individual ads without subscription. Selling ads and adding banners are the primary ways to generate revenue. There is a free plugin here that allows you to place ads within a single classified ad. You can get the plugin here:
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/appad-manager/
7.2 are there places and is it easy enough to ad banner ads? is this through widgets?
There are banner ad widgets for the header and sidebar. There is a sponsored links spot on single ad pages - you can see that here:
http://demos.appthemes.com/classipre...hits-aerosmith. You could also use the text widget to put ads in the footer.
8.1 any way to add a reputation system? is this being worked on? i remember holding back on this purchase for this reason alone.
No reputation system at this time. It's some we need to strongly consider.
8.2 any way to stop duplicate ads from the same user?
Not automatically. You would need to review.
9.1 what are some user options upon registering besides making ads? can they easily edit? can they post comments etc
You've got it covered. Create ads, edit ads, comment.
9.2 can we integrate the user list in to a forum, or better off using a different platform altogether, eg. vbulletin
Not automatically. There would need to be some customization or third party integration. We use vBulletin, aMember and WordPress, of course. When a customer makes a purchase - which is done via aMember - they are automatically added to vBulletin and our WordPress multisite. So the ability is there, but it would likely take a little work to get it done. It might be considerably easier to use bbPress.
10.1 can we edit the refine results to make it more specific or is this a 'set' feature where only appthemes can put the things we can refine?
Refine results is what it is, out of the box. You could make changes to the code to customize it to your needs.
12.1 is a private messaging plugin easy to install? are you looking into integrating this as well?
There is only the contact form that is on each single ad page. We do not have plans for a PM system but you could check out any number of PM plugins. Here's one:
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/...-for-wordpress
11.1 what are the benefits of classipress to other classifieds themes?
indeed, there are a lot of options. One of the strengths of ClassiPress is that it is built on WordPress. WordPress is easy to use for the average person. That means you don't need a lot of technical knowledge to get started and run your site. The basic ingredients are a domain, hosting, WordPress, a PayPal of Google Checkout (Wallet) account and ClassiPress. I'd say that's an easy cake to bake.
There are infinite customization possibilities but many of them require customization. We didn't create the theme to be everything to everyone. we haven't packed it with 10,000 options and admin controls. While this limits it's uses, it also makes it more robust and manageable. It also makes it reasonably affordable.
However, our upcoming marketplace is an effort to provide more options for people that want them. The goal, moving forward, is to create a lean and powerful theme that includes the expected core features of a classified site and then allow customization through plugins and child themes. You can see our marketplace here. We have not officially announced the marketplace yet as we are still adding items.
If you consider your options on a classified ads script, ClassiPress is both technically and economically within reach. And compared to similarly priced options, we have the best support and the most frequent updates. It's the reason why there are thousands of sites running ClassiPress.
sorry for all the questions, hope you can answer them all!
Not a problem. I'm happy to be of service.
Cheers!
