Indeed Integration and wordpress searching features

    Hi there,

I am seriously considering this theme for my web (under development with a different CMS, not wordpress). I find it simply fantastic. Excellent work guys!

Well, I need to know a few things before, maybe you can help me with this. I need to know whether:

    1. Does Indeed's integration allow me to set several queries? I need to play with several queries independently from each other: various professional sectors & various countries.
    2. Feeds from Indeed have geo-location data, is there any way to map them?
    3. Are job listings from Indeed retrieved by the theme default search functionality?
    4. Are Jobs manually input included with those from Indeed and under same categories?
    5. I have made some research about your Indeed's integration and found on your forum this: Using Indeed's JobRoll with JobRoller - Weird Results . Unfortunately, I am not a registered member and cannot register either. Have you sorted out this issue? Please give me some details.

Many thanks for your support and looking forward to hearing from you!!

    Best Regards,
    gg

    Hi there,

It's me, I just wanted to make something clearer. I am managing my web with a different CMS, but considering moving it to wordpress. So, I am not asking jobroller to be implemented or migrated into a different CMS.

    Thanks!

Thanks for the clarification :) In answer to your questions:

    1. Yes that's correct, you can basically set as many queries as you like. You can find some of the documentation relating to the Indeed setup here for a better idea of what is involved.

    2. There's no specific function for this built into the theme, and as the Indeed listings are dynamically displayed rather than imported into your actual installation I'm not sure what that would entail to set this up. There is a map plugin for JobRoller available in the AppThemes marketplace, however you may like to clarify with the developer of that plugin if it actually could work for feed listings (you can use the comments section of the marketplace page to communicate with the developer directly).

    3. Indeed feed jobs do appear in a search, they are listed underneath the main search results (i.e. jobs posted to the site itself), under the heading "Sponsored Search Results".

    4. Yes, if someone manually adds a job to the same category as where an indeed job comes from then they will appear in the same category.

    5. I have reviewed the thread you mention and there was no bug found with the theme, but the customer was given guidance with correct setup/configuration. Thanks.

    A need mmore information about...

    Many thanks for your reply.

I have done some research about your Indeed's integration on the documentation site and also on your forums. However and as I cannot find the way to register, I have to bring my concerns up here again. Could you please show me how to register on the forum? Most of my questions would clear if I had access.

    1. I would love having a "Filter bar by Location". Similar question to posts in your forum: "Job Roller - Locations" and "Filter by Location in Sidebar Filter". I really need my users to either browse or filter by location. Why? I will be displaying jobs from 14 countries. Taking into account that the "Filter bar" is right on top of the job listing, it make sense to add or remove filters such as by location. Any way to do this? or Work around? In addition to this, I will be displaying Indeed's jobs, these filters would apply to them, right?

    2. Are all jobs displayed as a list on the home page? So, if we are displaying (via Indeed's integration) a huge amount of jobs (14 countries with 8 different queries for each), do you apply pagination? How is it managed?

    3. I guess Indeed's integration is not like the jobroll that allows only 25 items per page, because otherwise it breaks the tracking-clicking through for the connection with Indeed's publisher account.

    4. I have also found this in the forum: "Indeed not returning expected search results". Is it a bug? As I cannot/don't know how to register, I cannot see your feedback.

    5. I have also found this in the forum: "How to Filter Indeed Jobs". This one has raisen up my concerns. Please some feedback on how you dealt with this as well.

    6. I am not pretty sure whether I have understood ok. So, Jobs added manually will have priority on the homepage than those coming from Indeed's integration? This is a comment on the post "How to filter Indeed jobs". Also, on the front page of job roller, it would be great if the Indeed sponsored ads feed could be automatically displayed. I would really appreciate if you could give some feedback on this. Do I understand well if Indeed jobs are displayed on the home page?

    7. I have also found this in the forum: "How to Delete Indeed Job Listings". Same thing, I would like to know how to do this, just in case.

    8. I think this is possible, but I would like to ask you to make sure before purchasing jobroller. How could I get some stats from jobs displayed on my site? Number of jobs by category and month?

    9. Last question, What's the difference between Feature Jobs and Sponsored jobs?

I know those are a lot of questions, but I really need to know any single aspect in order to assess Jobroller's functioning and its performance against my requirements.
    Hope you understand.

Thanks in advance for your support.

    BR,
    gg

The support forums are only accessible to verified AppThemes customers (i.e. those who have purchased a theme), so this is why registration options are not available, however we are of course happy to answer any pre-sales questions you have, here.

    1. The default theme does not have location options outside of the standard search, but the Multi-City JR plugin offers the location filter functionality you describe. The plugin page doesn't specifically mention how it works with the Indeed feed listings, however if you wish to clarify this to be sure, you are welcome to post in the comments section of the product page and ask the plugin developer directly (note, it is not developed by AppThemes).

    2. You can set some of the display options for Indeed listings from within the Integration configuration page as shown on the JobRoller admin demo under "Display". In terms of the actual number of listings displayed, this is determined by your own WordPress settings (how many posts per page).

    3. As per answer 2. the number of posts which display is based on what you choose before they are taken to the next page.

    4. This thread you mention was posted in March 2012, and the issue was that the Indeed API wasn't working well for a site with "very restrictive location constraints". The solution was implemented in version 1.6 of JobRoller in the form of the "Location radius" search option.

    5. This one was from May 2011, and specifically relating to results:

JobRoller uses what is called a fuzzy match for the search, so this is why you're not going to get only the exact keywords you type in. If a search was too restrictive, then you run the risk of people using different keywords to what you might expect them to, and end up with no results..
    6. This was probably clarified in answer 2. in terms of how you can choose for Indeed listings to display.

    7. I don't think I need to go back and check this thread specifically because I know that it will definitely be an older thread prior to when the Indeed feed integration changed. That is, that previously jobs from Indeed were actually pulled into the JobRoller site and saved as posts (which as you can imagine, could cause quite the build-up of posts in the database). This later changes so that listings were instead dynamically displayed, so the issue with deleting those jobs was no longer an issue. The changes are explained in more detail in this blog post relating to version 1.5 of JobRoller.

    8. From the back end, the "Jobs" portion of the JobRoller admin dashboard allows you as the admin to filter by month (although not by category). In the AppThemes marketplace, there is the Count plugin which can display some stats in the sidebar, with other default widgets for popular, and new job listings etc.

    9. Featured jobs are those that are highlighted and displayed above regular listings, and sponsored jobs are the Indeed feed listings.

No problem at all, I hope this information helps :)

About job categories and Indeed job queries

    Hi!

Thanks a lot for your feedback, it is really helpful. I hope you don't mind if I ask you again about the Indeed Integration and how the theme deals with job listings.

    1. I have read in the "Using the ‘Browse By’ Navigation" that there is no need to set categories for every job query. However, the added value of my web consists on setting very specific categories, so more than searching for jobs, I would like my users to go through a series of categories. How would I match my queries to my categories?

    2. I have also seen a post from 2011 about importing RSS feeds from other sources. Are you working on that? What would you suggest me to carry out these imports? Any mapping plugin?

    Thanks a lot!!!!!

No problem, perhaps this documentation regarding the setup of Indeed feeds may help explain how you can set job queries, specifically under "Using the ‘Browse By’ Navigation":

Filtering by job category works in the same way. You don’t need to create job queries for every category available on your job board to allow users to browse jobs by that category. Just create job queries for the categories you want to display on the frontpage and let JobRoller automatically retrieve jobs for any category that users browse.
There is no built in option for RSS feeds from other sources, however you can purchase other job aggregator plugins from the AppThemes marketplace which work in the same way as Indeed. These include SimplyHired, LinkedIn Publisher and CareerJet. Thanks.

Thanks for your reply. I am afraid I have not explained myself clear enough.

That's the documentation I have been looking at. However, it doesn't make it enough clear to me whether job categories are can be created manually or automatically from the queries. Please help me to understand this point.

This is an example of a query:
librarianship or title:(Library or librarian or indexer or cataloguer or cataloguing or "shelving assistant" or bookseller or "collection manager" or "collection officer" or "information assistant") |GB| full-time or parttime or contract or internship or temporary |
*By the way, if I do not include the job type variable in my query, would it retrieve everything regardless full-time or part-time, ...?

I would group results under the category "Librarianship" (I do have another 7 more categories). Why? Users would not normally search using so many keywords or use this sort of query and search engines would not even show some of these results as related jobs. That's the reason I want to offer my users the added value of browsing under job categories = my searches using Indeed jobs.

So, can I set my queries as categories? Is there any way to do this? As far as I can see, it is possible to "tag" manually input jobs under categories, but is there any way to match my queries or results from Indeed with my categories.

    Thanks in advance!

Job categories are not created automatically by the queries, you create them manually based on what you want. With the listings from Indeed being dynamically displayed, the results of these can essentially appear in multiple categories. To be honest, the examples on the documentation probably explain it better than I can, so to be specific to your example.. if you look under the section "Using the Browse by navigation" > "Searching Jobs", there are 3 examples which outline how the search is used depending on your job queries.. If you don't have job types which match the search criteria, it will show results based on other criteria of the search such as location.

The queries need to be in the format shown on the examples in the documentation, and you can view the Indeed configuration page from the JobRoller admin demo for more information. I hope this helps? Thanks.

Thanks for replying and sorry making so many questions.

So, I assume therefore that once I have previously created my custom job categories then results of Indeed queries would automatically classify Indeed jobs within custom job categories, right? So my users will be able to browse Indeed jobs as well.

    That's great!

    Thank you!
