Newbie to WP - Plugins and compatability

Hi
I am new to wordpress and looking to purchase clipper. Are most plugins compatable with clipper? I want to add some form of membership (with link to their own unique page) and possible personal fundraiser/donation plugins.
Would I need a developer to do this as I assume the theme layout has to be changed? (On the home page - featured coupons scroll can I easily add a featured members scroll below it?).
Can someone please help before I purchase the wrong theme, thanks.

Third party plugins are not officially supported and so they are not guaranteed to work out of the box and may require modifications to make it work with the theme.

Depending upon your coding knowledge, you may need the assistance of an experienced coder if you have to do some customizations to the theme .
