I'm looking to build a directory of industry professionals with these features:

• Members can submit their: photo | contact info | areas of expertise | pay rate | portfolio or examples of work (this could be a link)

• End users can filter members based on: 1) location 2) Field of expertise 3) Star Rating 4) Price (hourly or otherwise) 5) Availability (needs calendar function)

• The ability to have the theme expanded or customized for a fee

Can you make a recommendation for me?

Based on the brief description you have given, there are potentially 2 of our themes which offer some of the functionality you are looking for, and that is Vantage (business directory theme) and JobRoller (Job board theme). Neither of these offer ALL of the features you mention though, so each would require some amount of modification in order to suit your needs. You may like to review the specific theme pages for a clearer idea of the features that they do offer.
