Another membership package query

There seems to be endless threads regarding membership packages. Can I add another?

Am I right that I should be able to offer both an "Ad Pack" and a "Membership Pack". The customer can list a standard fixed price ad as well as at an time purchase a "Membership Pack"?

As a customer I purchase a "Membership Pack" $30 for 30 days which is setup as described in the membership tutorial. I chose to pay via direct deposit.

However I don't receive an email as a customer or as an administrator and I can't see anything about a membership pack being pending in the users profile.

I haven't bothered to add the package into the extended users profile because unless I receive an initial email that one has been purchased how would I know?

Does any one actually have a membership pack working?

If there are any mods/coders that want to contact me I am happy to allow remote in or something as it seems to be a common problem.
