Child and parent categories showing in alphabetical order on the home page

Hi! We have two main categories (Sell and Buy) each of which has 2 levels of subcategories. The problem is that all the positions (both parent and child) in those two levels are showing in alphabetical order on the home page. We would like the parent categories to be listed in alphabetical order and the child categories to follow the parent to which they belong. For example:

    Fiction (parent)
    Classical fiction (child)
    Contemporary fiction (child)
    Memoirs (parent) etc

Would be greatful for a tip how we could do this.
