Emails - are they vulnerable

If people choose to display their email addresses on a classified ad, so they are displayed with a mailto function, are they vulnerable to any passing spam harvester?

I'm moving many ads from an existing non Wordpress system and I remember being told that the email addresses were protected in some way. Does Classipress do this?

I don't really understand the tech behind this, so it may be that there isn't a problem, or there is but there isn't an answer. Nearly every ad I'm transferring has an email address visible.

But I'd like to know if there is something I should be doing.
