File controlling directory/standard listing

I have recently begun to familiarize myself with Classipress. To give a brief background, I hired a developer to build a classifieds site for me. The person started the site, brought it upto a certain level and then left me high-and-dry with absolutely no handover or knowledge transfer.

I am a complete newbie to both WP and CP. However, he did give me access to the backend and I have a user ID. I decided to go through this myself. Realized that this is a appthemes application, bought a fresh Classipress theme. Now my issue is I have no idea how he has managed the back-end so far. Though he has built the site with the correct specs I have him, and to give him due credit, he has done a good job. I am not happy with the look and feel and that's my main problem.

Now I can't get around this issue. I am trying to change stuff through the various options within CP & WP, however, I guess he's coded some stuff where I am not sure what to start looking at now.

For instance, on the home page, I want to change the 'standard style' to 'directory style'. I changed the parameters under Classipress --> Settings --> Home Page Layout --> Directory Style. No impact on the home page.

Can someone please help me?
