Help with Number of Listing on different Pages

Hi guys -

Can someone please help me with putting different numbers of ad listings on my homepage on Random/Just Listed/Most Popular versus the number of ads on my Category pages.

Currently, i have for the tabs on homepage - unfortunately its the same for category pages.

I have been looking, checking, trying to find links here/threads for 2 weeks and i still cant seem to find anything.
I am not the best techie person - so please can you please help link me to a thread for this. I'm getting a little frustratred - so all the help would really be appreciated.

Perhaps i am a little confused with terminology - is the Blog page the same as Category pages. If so - then i'm even more lost.
Cause i tried putting the number count on my blog page via php, but still does not affect the category pages. My blog page is Published.

Again, pls help me, i was told there are links - pls help link me to those threads - i have been looking at threads and i'm a little lost. In fact, now i'm no longer certain what to put in the search box.
