Local server (MAMP) with wordpress: help needed

Hey guys,

i'm currently using mamp to test my live website (plugin updates/core updates).

The problem is that all the websites I have visited so far teach you how to create a new wordpress under mamp but not how to migrate a live website to mamp, which is obviously more complex.

I have done practically all the steps.

When i copy all the files and replace them to the root of my MAMP local server i get a message saying the page was not found or get a blank page.

Are there some files I MUSTN'T copy from the live server to the local one (like wp-config for example)?

it's so difficult to create this test site I'm sure i'm very close to it...

Can someone sum up the steps ?

In the column 'option_name' find the fields "siteurl" and "home" and replace their values ​​with the new address.
