    Poor ClassiPress Speed

    Hi,

I am having major issues with classipress response times in general mainly when using IE7 and IE8, when using safari, firefox and opera the homepage rendering is better but then load the site in IE7 or IE8 and the browser window just freezes for a few seconds then responds.

Whilst i am mac based I dont see as much of a delay but its still there and as most of my members are windows based this is causing major problems for them as the navigation experience is far too slow.

I really like the classipress script but the site just running so slow with not many users and with press going out on the 15th march the site usage will go up causing even more delay.

I have done a lot of reading on the forums and tried most suggestions but these do not appear to help much, they have helped a bit but not enough for a quick loading site! I have checked with my hosting provider and they have been running some tests and they say the script is very large/ bloated for example:

On average my vps server is using 800MB of Ram and the usage of apache threads is 92MB.

Below is an example snapshot of my site:

    Code:
    797MB memory usage right now

    apache 21894 0.0 2.8 329600 92524 ? S 02:57 0:23 \_ /usr/sbin/httpd
    apache 21908 0.0 2.8 329600 92156 ? S 02:57 0:24 \_ /usr/sbin/httpd
    apache 21909 0.0 2.8 329600 92924 ? S 02:57 0:24 \_ /usr/sbin/httpd
    apache 14027 0.0 2.8 329600 92424 ? S 03:14 0:25 \_ /usr/sbin/httpd
    apache 18095 0.0 2.7 328336 89256 ? S 09:45 0:09 \_ /usr/sbin/httpd
This was after 3 apache threads where shut down otherwise my memory usage would have been 1000MB + so currently my site is using 92MB a thread on apache!!

Now compared to a shared server with 750 sites on

    Code:
    apache 17677 0.0 0.8 258212 27608 ? S 08:36 0:00 \_ /usr/sbin/httpd
    apache 17681 0.0 0.8 259528 28620 ? S 08:36 0:01 \_ /usr/sbin/httpd
    apache 17692 0.0 0.8 259788 28864 ? S 08:36 0:00 \_ /usr/sbin/httpd
The average is only 28MB per thread on apache!!

This is rather scary being that my site is running so slow compared to 750 different sites!

One more example of a busy site - Piccadilly Records

    Code:
    apache 10052 0.3 0.3 135224 8124 ? S 12:53 0:00 \_ /etc/httpd/bin/httpd -k start
    apache 10055 0.0 0.2 134996 5652 ? S 12:53 0:00 \_ /etc/httpd/bin/httpd -k start
    apache 10056 0.0 0.3 135528 8364 ? S 12:53 0:00 \_ /etc/httpd/bin/httpd -k start
    apache 10135 0.0 0.2 135088 5180 ? S 12:54 0:00 \_ /etc/httpd/bin/httpd -k start
The average is only 8KB apache thread! Now that’s good coding, granted it’s not a classipress site but it is a very busy site..

So as you can see my site is running dead slow compared to the above examples and I am running on a dedicated vps not using a cheap £5 per month basic hosting package as most people tend to, so i am using good server resource but have problems.

I have been looking around on the net at some other peoples classipress sites and they too have large file sizes for raw code and also suffer from the large delays on IE7 and IE8 also delays on other browsers but IE seems to be the worse with browser hangs.

I like this script a lot and want to continue to use it as i have invested a lot of money for this site but at its current pace of things i will not have a site if lots of people start to use it as usage grows.

Can anyone help with suggestions how to resolve the slowness of the script? or help with come coding changes to speed up?

    my site is bouncycastlesforsale.eu

(A bit of freelance is available to the developers on this site, please contact me by pm if you can assist as i need to improve the site speed before the 15th March.)

    Thanks in advance
    Sam
