Some questions on initial setup

I worked with 3.0.4 a couple of months ago but have now set up a new site with 3.0.5.3 and have some questions:

1. I thought that the Home Page Message appeared on the Home Page by default. I'm sure it did with earlier versions. With 3.0.5.3 it doesn't and I can't see anything obvious under Widgets. Have I missed something somewhere?
2. How are ads marked as Sold? I've marked an item as Sold and it displays no differently to how it did when it was unsold. What should the behaviour be?
3. Register Plus Redux plug-in used to work but no longer does under 3.0.5. I use this to capture a lot more information on registration and to send verification e-mails. Is this an RPR issue or is CP forcing its registration form on users?
