View Counter much higher then google analytics

How accurate is google analytics? I tweet a link directly on the twitter site and the views will jump 20, 30 times over a 5 - 10 min period, but the next day when I view the stats in analytics for that page it will show a fraction of what the site couter shows....This is a big problem for me as I plan on using my analytic stats to sell ad spaces on my site. If analytics is not reliable can you recommend one that is? Do I need to update my analytics code? do I need to tweek the code?
