Location search function broken

The location search function on my installation (1.6.3) of JobRoller isn't working correctly. I'm using a child theme, but reverted to the standard "Pro Blue" theme and had the same problem.

Try entering "Shanghai" in location search to see what I mean (there are a few jobs in Shanghai), or "Urumqi" to see the website return a search in (Russian) Cyrillic script - not sure what's causing that!
Any help gratefully received: obviously, this is quite an urgent issue for me.
