Image assets not appearing on listing page when assigned via admin

I have a directory featuring multiple listings for the same company if they have multiple locations (similar to Yelp). When I upload the company logo using the create listing page it appears in the image gallery on the listing page, but if I assign the same logo as the "Featured Image" for a newly created listing using the image gallery manager in admin it doesn't appear. I used the create listing page to enter content for both examples, but the same thing happens when I create a new listing within admin. I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this, or knows a workaround that doesn't involve uploading/storing multiple versions of the same image?
