Write a review redirects to homepage after login?

I wasn't able to find a post that covers this so I apologize if it has been covered elsewhere. Please confirm the following workflow for writing reviews is correct/intended:

1. For new users, a link is displayed at the bottom of the listing page asking them to login to write a review. On the login page there is no message alerting new users they must create an account first. If the user follows the register link below the login form and completes registration, the user is redirected to the homepage.

2. For existing users who are logged out, a link is displayed at the bottom of the listing page asking them to login to write a review. Upon successful login, the user is redirected to the homepage.

In both of these cases, it seems logical that the user would be redirected back to the listing page where they initiated the process. For #1, what about displaying a message prompting new users to create an account? I've been running my site for close to a year now and have yet to get one review. Part of that may have to do with my target audience, the other may be due to poor user experience.

I'm using Vantage 1.3.2 with all plugins deactivated for testing.
