SPAM New User Registrations

I am getting a lot of SPAM New User Registrations on my site. They are not showing up in my directory, just in my Users. I finally just unchecked the "Anyone can register" box but will I need that to be allow real directory clients to register? How do I prevent the spammers? Thank you for your help.
