    logo not fitting in the header

    My logo 250px by 90 px fits well, but leaves a blank space to the left of the image. I'd like to use a 992px by 90 px banner instead. This will make better use of the space and also show at a glance what the site is about. However, when I use this image, it is is truncated. Is there anything I can do about this?
