Linking to blog without category in URL

Hi Team

Just updated to 1.2 and for the life of me can't seem to get the following functionality working (followed prior thread in regards to blog not displaying at http://forums.appthemes.com/vantage-...ry-view-50627/)

In the old version I had a simple URL http://mydomain.com/blog/, that listed all blog entries. After checking all my permalinks etc the only way I can access the blogs is

http://mydomain.com/category/blog/

Do I need to forget the dream and do a 301?
