Changing Search function to look at Category

Hello,

To my understanding, the Search bar function looks at the location provided in the actual ad itself (created by the ad poster). Is there a way to instead, point the search bar to look at the Category the ad was actually placed in when you search by city as I am actually using "Categories" as Cities.
