claim listings and copyright

Hi there,

I wonder if anyone can help or share their experiences with claim listings. I use Vantage to run a UK database that lists information about public clubs, classes and events. I have been using the claim listing function to populate the site and have been finding information about local services adding the information as a listing with links to their website and then emailing the club to let them know they can claim their listing if they wish, all listings are free. I had a voluntary service said they didn't want to list and could I remove it (which I did immediately) but they then started saying they hadn't given me permission to copy their information and said what i was doing was against copyright. This information is on a public website about a public service and all I had listed was information about their events and linked it all to their website. Surely i thought given the 'claim listing' functionality was present in this software using this route wasn't infringing any copyright? Copyright seems such a blurry line that everyone i speak to says something different I just wanted to get the opinion or experiences of the people actually using the claim listing route.
