custom field information in listing DISAPPEARS after I correct a spelling mistake????

So am I right in thinking that once you create a custom form you can't even correct a spelling mistake in the form without losing ALL YOUR DATA....this is insane...please please someone help me

I change a spelling mistake in one of my forms in the backend and what do you know EVERY SINGLE LISTING I ENTERED IN THAT FIELD HAS DISAPPEARED??
