How do I modify Vantage Child Theme files in the '/includes' folder?

I can't seem to figure out why I can make modifications to files in the child theme except for anything contained in sub folders. When I make changes to copies of files from the parent theme's '/includes' folder, the changes to not take effect.

It looks to me like the parent theme points to the '/includes' folder files in the functions.php. Is there something I can do to override this and make the child theme point to its own '/includes' folder?
