Multiple countries setup in vantage?

Hi there, i know this question has probably been asked a few times but I am looking for someone who has a little experience here in actually getting this working pretty smoothly. Basically I am looking to have 3 or 4 versions of vantage for 3 or 4 countries and I am unsure of what is the best way forward.

same domain with different sub-domains potentially is one answer? e.g. www.domain.com for USA usa.domain.com or www.domain.com/usa and so on. I know i cannot add different cities list for different countries, so this way i have to create different instances of wordpress for different countries right in vantage?

Alternatively I could use one site but then when a user selects United Kingdom for their listing on the site their is no way to just show that user the UK listings only and obviously the UK site should just have UK advertisements on it aswell - so this point to a whole new website.

My fear then with the subdomains is when a user in the UK searches for say my site they find http://www.mydomain.com and not http:///www.mydomain.com/uk or http://uk.mydomain.com

I know there is also the WordPress multisite setup but I am a bit fearful of that due to lack of customization of each individual site then - but maybe this is the correct way not sure really.

Any help would be much appreciated? or if anybody has actually carried out a decent attempt then great.
