Need to remove the option to choose a parent category for my Vantage site

I've read this link http://forums.appthemes.com/classipr...tegories-6881/ and it discusses removing the choice to choose a Parent category and only choose one of the subcategories. It's for Classipress and I read from there that if I update Wordpress the coding won't work. Does anyone have coding that will work for Vantage 1.2.1 ? Or will this be fixed in the next update of Vantage?

My site goes this way:

San Francisco
Photographer
Planner
Caterer

Sacramento
Photographer
Planner
Caterer


I don't want them to choose the Parent category (SF or Sac).
