Tag help

Sorry if this is something daft that I am missing............

Is it possible to create a tag group so I dont have to repeat the same tags for different listings........for example Restaurant......would have a generic tag of something like:- places to eat, food, dinner etc etc.......so I would like to assign all listings under the category Restaurants with a global tag and then either add a tag such as chinese food......or remove a tag if it isn't appropriate for that listing........

Any help would be deeply appreciated as my fingertips are wearing thin with all the repeat typing......
