Is there a way to remove the categories from refined search

I am building a nationwide directory of attorneys. I am listing 1 attorney in each city. So my listing category will be the city. However I want to remove the categories from refined search and just use the slider. The reason is because if I have 500 cities in the directory, then there is going to be a list of 500 cities and an update button all the way down at the bottom. Not only will this look bad but nobody will likely ever even see the update button.

Any suggestions?
