User Spam (aka Brute Force)?

Been getting hammered with user signups from yahoo accounts. From the reading I've done this is called a Brute Force attack ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brute-force_attack ) and it's my understanding that it's someone's attempt to gain access to my wp account by attempting to guess my username and password.

I've since created a long username and have a 30 character password but that alone doesn't keep the user signups from coming in. VERY annoying.

Anyone have any ideas as to how to stop this? Other than NOT allowing anyone to register?
