Dynamic Drop Downs for Country, State, and City
We have seen this come up a few times in the forum and a lot of people ask about this feature when discussing about the Citify Ultimate and the Statify Ultimate plugins. I am referring to dynamic selection of countries, states and cities, for example selecting a country results in the state drop down to list states only from the selected country, same when someone selects a state, the city drop down would list the cities only from within the selected state. This selection could be applied to the "Post an Ad" form as well as something like the Statify ultimate plugin, which allows users to select their state and browse listings only within their region.
Currently there is no way in ClassiPress to build such associative drop drown fields, but we at
Themebound.com, are thinking of developing this functionality as a paid plugin/mod combo. The proposed method would be to create one or more tables in the database and associate cities with the states they are in and states with the countries they are in, giving the option to build these lists from the admin back end in the form of a plugin. Then we can create a mod to replace the default state and city fields with the dynamic drop down fields using the same field names, so people can select their region in a hierarchical manner. This could further be extended into creating localised "sub-sites" like the Statify Ultimate and Citify Ultimate plugins.
We think this is possible with a long and concentrated effort, but would like to know your opinion on this functionality. If this generates enough interest, we will just go ahead and create it. So please let us know your thoughts.
