Thread: Approval of members registering for site

Thank you to Mr. Green and cloudybright for their suggestions on configuring classipress to require pre-approval prior to allowing users to access the site. Unfortunately, the Register Plus Redux and S2 Member plug-ins and the new field registration page option seem incompatible with the Classipress registration page functionality. Jomarkosabol mentioned that a prior version of the theme allowed for registration pre-approval, but that this was eliminated based on popular demand. Is there any possibility that 3.1 might include the option of pre-approving or auto-approving users? Or might there be old code from a prior version that I can reincorporate into the registration page functionality to allow user pre-approval? thank you

CP 3.1 should have a double opt-in option (users need to validate their subscription by clicking a token link in the email sent by CP). This function can be turned on/off at your discretion. (Correct me if I'm wrong Moderators)

As for users approval prior to becoming active members, this will still need to be done manually meanwhile, I posted an alternative workaround.

The s2member solution requires PHP 5.3 so I couldn't test it. Nor do I want to break anything else by installing 5.3.

Apparently the ClassiPress theme overides the WordPress registration system, which is preventing Register Plus (and Redux version) from having any effect on new registrations. Register Plus works ok with the latest versions of WordPress, so the problem is with ClassiPress. I read the bit about users having problems with emails, but that problem is more to do with their mail setup, so there should be an option rather than a lack of options so that we can do what we need to do. Wouldn't a simpler solution be to let WordPress handle the registration form, and then third party plugins might also have a chance to work?

So the real question is... how to restore registration authority to WordPress?

I agree with you on that one William, we saw the benefits of Custom posts but the registration portion should be left to WP to handle, nevertheless, its part of the theme functions now so unless a lot of people vote for it on Ideas in action, I doubt they'll change it

I use "New User Approve".
