Modify All Custom Field Descriptions

If you notice on my site I have customized the step 1 to display descriptions for each of my fields. The problem is that I had to go into the database in order to modify all the fields that you guys have locked. I'de really like it if you could unlock all the desciptions like you have the titles of the custom fields, so I don't have to do this from the SQL database side.

An example of how I'm using the descriptions is here:

You can login as:
User: demo
Password: demo

Click Submit Ad and then select a category to see all the fields and descriptions.

*This I think would also be a good place to request that the feature I built into my site could be an option for all ClassiPress members. The option to turn on field descriptions. If my code will help you in any way create this feature I will happily and freely submit it to you.

I second this request. There shouldn't be any "locked" fields.

If you must why not lock them in the database but let us customize them in the front-end, that way what is stored in the database is no impacted but gives the users some flexiblity.

You just do your mapping/translation between UI and mySQL in code.

Let me take a step back and say "I don't mind that the fields are locked from removal". But fields descriptions, names, and required values should be unlocked. They are locked to protect us from causing errors in the software. However I have modified and tested the modification of the descriptions and names, and no errors occurred. Things like "address" and "state" which don't have to be required, should be able to be modified. I for example "really dislike" that "street address" is required by default.

A last thought is that users need a way to remember "what the original title was" on some of these original locked fields. Hardcoding an ID-> Original Name combo to display "greyed out / locked" would be a good way to handle this.

I think this is a great idea, however, I have multiple form layouts and although I can change the name of a core field such as ITEM to read Business Directory for example, this becomes a problem as it changes this field name across all of my form layouts.

So, at the moment, I am stuck with all my custom form layouts having an ITEM field.

There is probably a good reason they are locked, im no expert on code or anything, but it seems perhaps they are locked to prevent modification that could result in errors? Lets say if you delete something that the site calls for and its not there, that would result in a fatal error, correct?

You are correct to some extent, my suggestion however was to "lighten up" on the locking since I've tested changing certain things like "field descriptions" for all fields, and it doesn't break the system. Also you will notice that IF you create a custom layout form, you can actually remove ALMOST all the fields. I was hoping to allow this as my default form. Anyways, its been submitted to the developer, we will just have to wait and see how he thinks it should be done now.

Hi, I have a need to rename the required ITEM field name on 1 form layout. Can this be done yet without it propagating to all forms?

Also, is there an option yet to either hide or remove the Allow Ad Images upload fields on specific form layouts? I would like to hide or remove (I have it set to show 5) all five on a specific form.

Item name creates the word press post title which IS required to save the post on word press. This will never be optional. And no, in 3.0.3 there will not be new options relating to the form layout.
