changing fonts and words in child themes

Im in the child theme and I am editing the style.css I want to edit certain .php files Im getting slightly confused on how to edit the 'Ad Categories' before in the regular classipress theme editor, I was just able to edit the tpl-categories.php file and now I don't know whether to edit the style.css, or the .php file by doing the @import url(../classipress/tpl-categories.php); and if this is the right way to go, then do I edit the file or do I edit some code on the sylesheet
