Modifying Child Theme?

When I first started with Classipress I didn't use a child theme when modifying the theme. I've made a lot of changes to many files to add and remove some parts of the theme. I won't update this site so the lack of child theme isn't really an issue BUT going forward I'd like to do things right!

The problem is most of my editing was simply deleting or adding code by trial and error until I got it right. How do I modify the child theme though?
